Privacy Policy

r8r is a site where people rate topics and post short takes. This page explains what we collect when you use it, what other people can see, and how to get your information removed.

What we collect

• Your Google sign-in. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name and profile picture from Google. Your email is never shown on the site.
• Your profile. We give you a random handle (like STORM_SIGNAL), which you can change. If you upload a profile picture, it is stored and shown publicly.
• What you post. Your star ratings, takes, replies, the topics you create and any images or links you attach to them.
• What you do on the site. Topics you follow, takes you save, takes you boost, and reports you file.
• Rating history. We keep a record of each time a rating is added, changed or removed. We use it to draw a topic's rating trace and daily scores. It is never shown with your handle.
• Information in your browser. Your sign-in session is stored in your browser so you stay signed in. If you rate a topic from a challenge link before signing in, your rating is kept in your browser until you sign in.

We don't run ads, and we don't sell or rent your information.

What's public

Your handle, profile picture, ratings, takes, replies and the topics you create are public. Anyone can see them, including people who aren't signed in, and search engines may index them. Challenge links you share show your rating on that topic to whoever opens the link. Your email address, follows, saves and reports are not public.

How we use it

• To run the site: show ratings and takes, calculate crowd scores, mood shifts and volatility, and keep you signed in.
• To keep the site safe: review reports, filter blocked words, and hide spam or abuse.
• To publish aggregate data, such as a topic's average score or daily trend. Aggregate data doesn't identify you.

Services we use

• Supabase stores our database, sign-ins and uploaded images.
• Vercel hosts the site.
• Google handles sign-in. Images attached to topics are checked by Google Cloud Vision for unsafe content before they're shown.

These companies process data for us under their own privacy and security terms.

Deleting your information

You can delete any of your takes on the site. To delete your whole account, email us at hello@getr8r.com from the address you signed in with. We'll delete your profile and sign-in, and remove or anonymize your ratings, takes and replies, within 30 days. Copies in backups are deleted on our host's normal backup schedule.

Children

r8r isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Big changes will be announced on the site.
